Antique 18th Century English Framed Embroidery Samplers | Set of 2
This set of two antique English embroidery samplers have been beautifully framed as a pair, floated on dark green mounts in gold wood frames. One sampler features an alphabet and is dated 1763, made by a child named Elisabeth at age 8. The other depicts flora and fauna motifs with darling bunnies and peacocks. It is incredible to think that the hands of a little girl created these back in Georgian England and that they have been lovingly preserved to this day. We love thinking about keeping these in a kid's room or adding warmth to already cozy spaces like a snug.
Embroidery samplers were an important part of a young girls' education serving as a record of her learning but also were a form of artistic expression and reflected distinctions in class as only wealthier families could afford to provide such tutoring and schooling.
Size: 36 x 49cm
- Please note, these are in overall good vintage condition for their age, however there is some staining to the top of one in the set; see photos for reference.
Please note, all items are either antique or vintage and as such have a natural patina and signs of age -- which we love! While we do our very best to demonstrate the signs of wear in our photography and product descriptions, please reach out should you have any questions on any piece prior to purchase as all sales are final. Signs of wear may include surface dirt, staining, minor holes, color loss, crackeling, etc.
